Assessment Description
Honors Students: Complete this assignment according to the directions provided in the "Honors Addendum," located in Class Resources.
Throughout the pre-licensure program, students will develop a professional portfolio that will be used for personal reflection and growth and for employment applications and interviews upon completion of the nursing program. As students advance through the nursing program, they should identify and incorporate artifacts into their portfolios to demonstrate their accomplishments. These artifacts will include the nursing philosophy and professional goals statement, "Psychomotor Skills Checklist," clinical evaluations, benchmark assignments, and other papers and reflections completed throughout the program. Students will submit their completed portfolios in the NSG-444 Transition to Practice course at the end of the program.
For this assignment, students will complete a draft of their personal nursing philosophy and professional goals statement. Students are expected to refine their statement and goals as their philosophy evolves over the course of the program. Students should save a copy for continued revision to use in NSG-444 Transition to Practice. In NSG-444, students will revisit this statement and make a final revision for an assignment submission in the Level 4 course. While your statement is considered a draft that will evolve throughout the program, the draft you submit for this assignment should nevertheless be polished and professional.
Address the following in your 750-1,000-word statement:
- Describe your personal approach to and philosophy of nursing care, incorporating at least one nursing theorist.
- Discuss how your clinical experiences and what you have learned in your Level 1 classes have impacted the development of your philosophy.
- Define three to five goals for professional nursing and skills development that you would like to attain by the end of your nursing program.
