In Topic 8, students are introduced to drug classifications related to the hematologic system to include mechanism of action, indications for use, and major adverse effects. These medications are used to maintain or restore circulation, improve peripheral blood flow, or lower lipid levels in the blood.
Objectives:
- Discuss the mechanism of action, indications for use, and major adverse effects of selected drugs that affect the hematologic system.
- Discuss the role of alternative and complementary therapies for conditions of the hematologic system.
- Identify client-related factors that influence the effects of drugs that affect the hematologic system.
- Use the nursing process to determine safe care for a client who is receiving medications that affect the hematologic system.
