NSG 318: Topic 14: Drugs Affecting the Endocrine System / NSG 318: Introduction to Pharmacology
  In Topic 14, students are introduced to drug classifications for the endocrine system, including mechanism of action, indications for use, and major adverse effects. Medication treatment for conditions like hypothyroidism, hypo/hypercalcemia, adrenal insufficiency, and diabetes will be discussed. In this topic, students will cover thyroid/parathyroid agents, adrenal agents, and antidiabetic drugs. Objectives:
  1. Discuss the mechanism of action, indications for use, and major adverse effects of selected drugs that affect the endocrine system.
  2. Discuss the role of alternative and complementary therapies for conditions of the endocrine system.
  3. Identify client-related factors that influence the effects of drugs that affect the endocrine system.
  4. Use the nursing process to determine safe care for a client who is receiving medications that affect the endocrine system.
