In which program of study are you enrolled, or plan to enroll? | Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) |
What are some of the program core courses you are looking forward to taking and why? | I am looking forward to taking NRS-445: Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice because it will equip me with the skills to critically analyze research and apply evidence-based findings to improve patient care. Additionally, NRS-465: Applied Evidence-Based Project and Practicum excites me as it will offer hands-on experience in implementing research projects thus enhancing my practical skills. Lastly, NRS-460: Complex Disease Management interests me because it will deepen my understanding of managing intricate health conditions which is essential for providing comprehensive patient care as an Emergency Room (ER) nurse. |
Which courses do you anticipate being the most challenging? Explain why. | I anticipate that NRS-460: Complex Disease Management will be the most challenging because in my understanding it involves understanding and managing intricate health conditions, requiring advanced clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills. Additionally, I believe NRS-445: Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice may also pose challenges due to the need for rigorous analysis of research methodologies and statistical data. Both courses demand a high level of comprehension and application, and this makes them intellectually demanding. |
Spiritual Plan
GCU is committed to integrating faith across all aspects of the GCU community. This stems from GCU’s mission to educate students from a Christian perspective and to prepare them for careers that honor God while serving others. Read about GCU's "One Foundation," including the "Ethical Positions Statement" and "Doctrinal Statement" located at https://students.gcu.edu/one-foundation-grand-canyon-university. Then watch the video "One Foundation: Integration of Faith, Learning, and Work" located at the bottom of the page at https://www.gcu.edu/why-gcu/christian-identity-and-mission.
What did you take away from the readings and video? How can you apply this to your experience while at GCU? (50-100 words) | The readings highlight GCU's strong Christian foundation that shapes its identity, mission, and ethical positions. Moreover, the university also integrates faith across academics, work, and service, aiming to equip students with a Christian worldview while preparing them for careers that honor God and serve others. I believe I can apply this to my GCU experience by embracing faith integration in nursing courses, reflecting on how Christian principles inform ethical healthcare decisions and considering how my role as an ER nurse aligns with GCU's mission of serving others and contributing to human flourishing. This Christ-centered approach will enrich my educational journey and professional practice. |
Review the Spiritual Life website located at: https://students.gcu.edu/student-affairs/spiritual-life and the Weekly Devotionals at https://www.gcu.edu/blog/spiritual-life How will these resources help you engage with the GCU Community? (50-100 words) | These resources will help me engage with the GCU community by offering opportunities for spiritual growth and leadership. Additionally, weekly worship services, Bible studies, and prayer requests will allow me to connect with fellow students and deepen my faith. Also, participation in local and global outreach programs will foster a sense of community and purpose, while Life Groups provide smaller, supportive environments for my personal and spiritual development. |
Career Plan
Grand Canyon University offers several career tools to help you discover potential career paths, build a resume, search for employment, and more. Take a few minutes to complete the five Self-Assessment activities (Work Interest, Personality, Leisure, Values, Skills) on the GCU Career Compass website located at https://www.focus2career.com/Portal/Register.cfm?SID=810 (Access Code: Purpose).

Even if you have completed an assessment such as this in the past, it is good to reassess yourself every so often to reevaluate your goals, focus, and direction based on your growth.
After you complete the survey, fill in the following table.
Research the details of your Self Assessment results, and then list and describe at least three job descriptions. | 1. Acute Care Nurse- provide patients with acute conditions with sophisticated nursing care. 2. Emergency Management Specialist- Create protocols and plans for responding to emergencies, including natural catastrophes. 3. Emergency Room Nurse- Provide critical care for urgent medical situations. |
Based on your results, what surprises did you find? If there are none, explain why. (100-150 words) | I was not surprised by my self-assessment test results. As an ER nurse, I already provide critical care in urgent medical situations, which aligns perfectly with the Emergency Room nurse role. My studies in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at the university have also exposed me to various nursing specialties, including acute care. This familiarity made the acute care nurse result be expected in a way. Additionally, my work often involves creating and following emergency protocols, so the emergency management specialist role naturally fits my experience. These results reflect my current skills and career aspirations, confirming my professional alignment. |
After completing your current program/degree, what is your plan? (grad school, internship, career plan, etc.) | After completing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, my plan is to continue advancing my career as an ER nurse while exploring opportunities for further specialization. I aim to pursue a Master’s degree in Nursing with a focus on a field that will deepen my expertise. Additionally, I plan to seek certifications in areas related to nursing to enhance my skills and qualifications. By combining advanced education with practical experience, I hope to take on leadership roles in nursing and contribute to developing effective patient care strategies. |
