In this final unit, we will focus on gaining a broader, connected view of the world as it approached 1500. In the first week of the unit, we will follow in the footsteps of Ibn Battuta. Battuta came from Morocco and traveled extensively in and on the periphery of the Islamic world, which in the 14th century reached from Spain and sub-Saharan Africa to China, India, and Indonesia. In addition, we will expand our study to the Americas, focusing on developments in North and South America, especially around the Andes and in Mesoamerica. The next and final week of the course content will provide a summary of the state of the world around 1500.
