Professional Skill:  Written Communication is assessed in this Competency. This Assessment requires submission of three (3) documents, an annotated scholarly article, your Source Quality Rating Document and your Developing a Thesis and Outline Document. Save your files as follows:

• Scholarly article: EC1003_Article_firstinitial_lastname (for example, EC1003_Article_J_Smith).
• Source Quality Rating Document: EC1003_ Quality_firstinitial_lastname (for example, EC1003_Quality_J_Smith).
• Developing a Thesis and Outline Document: EC1003_ Response_firstinitial_lastname (for example, EC1003_Response_J_Smith).

You may submit a draft of your assignment to the Turnitin Draft Check area to check for authenticity. To compete this Written Response Assessment, demonstrate your ability to write a thesis sentence and an outline in preparation for drafting an academic essay in response to the community issue of your choosing. Follow these steps to complete your Assessment:

1. 1. Review your completed Assessment from Competency EC1002: Developing Coherent Sentences and Paragraphs.  If necessary review the Taking Action in Your Community Project Overview.
   2. Conduct research to find one scholarly article that supports the position you intend to take on your chosen issue.
   3. Read, highlight, and take notes on the article to ensure comprehension.
   4. Complete the Source Quality Rating Document on the article.
      1. Fill out all the sections and be as specific as you can.
   5. Complete the Developing a Thesis and Outline Template.
