Assessment Description:
Writing an essay can be divided into at least three main parts—the introduction, the body, and the conclusion. Looking further into the essay, the thesis statement can be implicit (implied) or explicit (a line can be drawn under it).Depending upon the length of the essay, the introduction might be more than one paragraph, but the thesis statement should generally appear at the end of the introduction. Body paragraphs follow, and each has its own unique topic sentence, the first sentence that contains the unique supporting point for that paragraph. The conclusion needs a clear transitional word or phrase at the beginning (but not "In conclusion"), and it revisits the thesis and each main point. However, no new information belongs in the conclusion.

Hello class,
As I reflect on the process of writing my rhetorical analysis essay, I find it helpful to review the key components of essay structure outlined in our course materials. Grand Canyon University (2022) emphasizes that "the thesis statement should generally appear at the end of the introduction," which I aimed to follow in my own writing. For my rhetorical analysis of the CDC's ADHD webpage, I crafted the following thesis statement: "The CDC maintains a comprehensive webpage on ADHD and by analyzing the appeals of ethos, pathos, and logos, this essay will argue that the CDC has been effective in communicating key information about ADHD to a broad audience."
This thesis appears at the end of my introductory paragraph, aligning with the guidance provided in the Writing Process video by Grand Canyon University (n.d.). I also aimed to make it explicit, so that "a line can be drawn under it" as described by Grand Canyon University (2022). I believe my thesis outlines the specific rhetorical appeals I will be analyzing (ethos, pathos, and logos) and also states my argument about the CDC's effectiveness in communication. While crafting this thesis, I tried to ensure it would effectively guide the rest of my essay. As Grand Canyon University (2022) notes, "Body paragraphs follow, and each has its own unique topic sentence, the first sentence that contains the unique supporting point for that paragraph.". Thus, my thesis sets up the structure for these body paragraphs, each focusing on a different rhetorical appeal.
Looking back, I see areas where I could potentially strengthen my thesis. For instance, I might be more specific about what constitutes effective communication or clarify what I mean by a "broad audience." I believe these refinements could help sharpen the focus of my analysis throughout the essay. I also look forward to your feedback on how I can refine my thesis statement in the final draft.
