Solution to UNV-103: University Success - Summary of Current Course Content Knowledge.
SAMPLE 1
Hello class,
Based on the topics we will cover in chapters 1 through 5, I have prior knowledge of several of the weekly objectives to some extent. In Chapter 1, which discusses the story of Grand Canyon University, I am familiar with the historical background of GCU transforming from a Baptist college to the large private Christian university it is today. This is because I have researched the university prior to being a student here. I also have some knowledge about seeking purpose and finding your place at the university as covered in chapter 2. In my undergraduate career thus far, I have spent time reflecting on my purpose and educational goals
Conversely, chapters 3, 4, and 5 cover several topics that I have limited prior knowledge of. In chapter 3, which reviews important GCU policies including things like the honor code, classroom policies, and Title IX, I have very little familiarity. While I understand general concepts like academic integrity, the specific honor code and various processes, if violations occur, are new information to me. Additionally, time management and wellness strategies discussed in chapters 4 and 5 are also areas I have limited experience with. While general concepts like nutrition, exercise, and stress reduction are familiar, I have not implemented formal academic systems for planning, scheduling, self-care, or tracking my physical and mental well-being.
In addition, there are a few topics from these initial chapters that I would like to discuss further with my instructor and classmates. In Chapter 3, I think diving more into the honor code and what constitutes violations would be beneficial, as would real-life examples of issues that have come up and how they were addressed. I also have questions about resources for international students, as some policies may not apply to or be interpreted the same for students coming from different countries and cultures. Regarding time management in Chapter 4, I would be interested in learning specific systems or apps other students have found helpful for planning, task lists, and prioritizing responsibilities. Finally, discussing wellness strategies from chapter 5 that have proven most effective would be of interest to me. I believe the topics covered in all the chapters does a good job of setting the stage for success in this course and I look forward to expanding my knowledge of all the concepts presented.
