HIST 120: World History to 1500- Module 4: Christianity, Islam, and Trade
This is another hugely important unit, especially if we want to start to understand how the world as we know it today began to emerge in what we might call late "antiquity" and through the early medieval world. We will be tracing the impact of three key catalysts of historical transformation in this unit: 1) the rise of Christianity and its establishment as the state religion of the Roman Empire; 2) The creation of Islam and the spread of Islamic civilization from the Arabian Peninsula into Mesopotamia, Persia, India, the Levant, Anatolia, North Africa, and Europe; and 3) the creation of a more unified Eurasian-African trading network.
