BIO-201: Human Anatomy and Physiology I: Lab – Topic 2: Tissues and Integument

Tissues are the building blocks of everything in the body. By recognizing the normal structures and functions of tissues, students will be able to understand why various tissues are located in specific organs and areas of the body. By learning the structures of the integumentary system, students will understand the protection function of our skin.

Objectives:

  1. Identify the four major tissue types.
  2. Identify the location and function of epithelial and connective tissues.
  3. Identify glands and epithelial and connective tissues at the microscopic level.
  4. Identify and describe the components of the integumentary system at the microscopic and macroscopic levels.
  5. Identify and describe the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis.
  6. Explain the importance of pigmentation and the ABCD method of evaluation of skin malignancy.
